Story Time!

Here are Abigail's current favourite books. We are big fans of Dr Seuss in our house!

The Bears Holiday is a tale about Baby Bear learning all the important things about going on a holiday to the beach. Papa Bear teaches Baby Bear some safety rules on and off the land. Abi's favourite part is when they go underwater to explore and encounter a grumpy whale.

This is a fantastic book to read. The illustrations are fantastic and the story has a great blend of rhythm and repetition. The story is quite wacky but Abi seems to love it even more with every read. Highly recommend this book.

We have been reading this book for a few months now. Only recently has Abigail really understood that there is a real baby in my belly. She knows this story word for word. Her favourite part is when they talk to the baby through the imaginary "tummy telephone". Abi has now insisted we do this with my belly and we often talk to the baby throughout the day, telling him all about life outside the womb. My favourite part is when the little boy in the story is impatient and wants to meet his little brother but the Daddy insists that "the door is closed rather tight". Haha, what a way to put it, Mummy's cervix is CLOSED!

Story Time!

Here are Abigail's current favourite books. Like me, Abi knows them word for word.

Dr Seuss was a genius. And a nutcase at the same time. His books send you into instant tongue twisting stories and take you to strange places. Fox in Socks is one of these. I almost stutter reading this. James however, is much more fluent than me.

Abi loves this story just as much as the original. The Cat is very naughty but redeems himself in the end by helping the children clean up the mess he makes. A classic story.

This story is about machines. Abi loves the rescue helicopter, the crane and the tractor. The illustrations are great in this book too. Now when we drive down the Cahill Expressway, Abi chimes to the machines on the side of the road "they can work all day!" which is the ending sentence on every page. Very cute.

This is a really cute story indeed. The illustrations are fantastic. The story involves a stick man who loses his way from his family tree and goes on a scary adventure to the park, the beach and almost into a fireplace! Santa rescues him and drops him home on Christmas Eve. A great read.

A classic children's book. This naughty tiger comes to tea and eats and drinks everything in the house, including all the water from the tap! The family have no dinner so they go to a cafe for dinner. The next day the little girl buys some tiger food in case the Tiger comes back, but he never does. Abi likes the illustrations mostly.

Story Time!

Here are Abigail's current favourite books.

She reads all day to herself. We also read her stories twice a day. Before her day nap. Then 3-4 stories every night before bed.

Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. This is a cute story about a Giraffe named Gerald who can't dance. At the dance in Africa, he makes a fool of himself in front of the other animals. Then a little cricket in the woods teaches him how to dance. Abi loves this story, and screams "I'M DANCING!" when Gerald learns to dance. Great pictures too.

Nat Fantastic by Giles Andreae and Katharine McEwen. This is a new book but already a favourite. Whilst reading a bedtime story with his mummy, Nat sneezes and turns into a superhero named Nat Fantastic. It's short and sweet. Abi likes it when we pretend to sneeze and say "AH CHOO!".

The Lion Who Wanted To Love by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. This is a gorgeous compasssionate story about a Lion who doesn't want to hunt with his pride because he loves animals too much. He is shunned by his mother and goes it alone in the african desert. He helps other animals until one day, he needs all their help when he is caught in the river saving a baby cheetah. Leo The Lion is finally asked to be King of the Pride by his humble mother. Absolutely love this story, very cute.

The Chimpanzees of Happy Town by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker Rees. This is Abigail's favourite story. We read this twice a day. She loves this story about Chutney, a traveller who decides to fix up Drabsville, USA and transform it into Happy Town. I know this story off by heart now. I highly recommend this book for toddlers.

Story Time!

Abigail loves to read. She reads to herself at various times in the day.

But story time before bed is her favourite time of the day. We read 3-5 books every night before bed, but these 3 are her current favourites. She knows them page by page and gets hysterically excited when I say the words "ocean", "rumble" or "penguin" before story time. The anticipation is brilliant, she LOVES these books.

Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz was the 1st book in the series that I bought, and I think still her favourite. The story is short and sweet about life in the jungle. Her favourites are the Gorilla, Zebra and Chimpanzee.

Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz is so much fun to read. I actually look forward to reading this book. I almost sing the words now, I know it off by heart like Abigail. The 1st line is:

"There's a curious commotion at the bottom of the ocean, I think we outta go and take a look".

Abi loves to say "bzzt" on the sting ray's tail, squeak like a dolphin and jiggle like a jellyfish. She loves this book so much, we have to take this book on every overnighter, to Nanna's house or on holidays.

Perky Little Penguins by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees is a fabulous story about the life of a penguin. Abi loves counting how many penguins per page, and loves seeing little baby penguins wearing floaties on their arms, just like she does in the pool. I do a special voice for the lost baby seal pup, which Abigail likes. I sound like a little scottish boy, it's really quite terrible, haha.
